JBC gets 7 opposition letters to De Lima’s CJ nomination

MANILA, Philippines – The Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) has received seven letters opposing the nomination of Justice Secretary Leila De Lima for the post of Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.

Two private citizens — Jericho Urquiola and Shiela Marie Gargolez — told the JBC that De Lima should be disqualified from the selection process for at least three main reasons: failure to comply to the Supreme Court’s (SC) temporary restraining order against the Department of Justice’s watch list order against former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo; she has a pending disbarment case before the Integrated Bar of the Philippines; and she is an appointee of President Benigno Aquino III. continue reading…
